MEET ALEX JOERS
State Representative for Wisconsin's 81st District
Dear Neighbors,
Middleton is where my story began and where I grew up. It is where I learned the value of hard work, service, and community, and those lessons have guided every step of my life in public service.
At 14, I started working at my family’s small business, The Little Gym. Over the next 17 years, I saw every side of running a small, family-owned business and worked closely with parents, kids, and employees every day. That experience shaped my understanding of the real challenges working families and small business owners face.
I earned a dual degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, where I worked throughout college and stayed active in student government and Get Out the Vote efforts. While there, I met my wife, Katie. We were married in 2018 and are now raising our two kids, Blake and Emerson, in the Waunakee area.

In 2020, I was elected to the Dane County Board and re-elected in 2022. I served on the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee, Personnel and Finance Committee, UW Extension Committee, Youth Commission, Public Works and Transportation Committee, and the Monona Terrace Board of Directors. In those roles, I focused on protecting our land and water, strengthening flood mitigation efforts, supporting small business recovery, improving public health, and expanding access to affordable housing.

In 2022, I was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly, where I serve on the committees on Small Business Development, Colleges and Universities, Tourism, and Rules.
In the legislature, I have focused on issues that hit close to home for families like mine. I helped develop and advance legislation to reduce gun violence, ease the burden of student debt, protect our land and water, strengthen access to healthy food, and make child care more affordable and accessible for working parents. This work is about building a safer, healthier future for the next generation and making sure no family is left behind.

It has truly been an honor to serve the people of Wisconsin’s 81st District. I do not take that responsibility lightly. There is still so much important work ahead, and I am committed to continuing to listen, show up, and fight for the families and communities that make this district home.
I am deeply grateful for the trust this community has placed in me, and I look forward to the work we will continue to do together.
Alex Joers
